As you saw with the Bacon Brunch Explosion, we have a lot of time to kill and even more spare bacon to eat at The American Royal. We put that to good use with the donuts that were brought out for breakfast with these amazing Smoked Bacon Wrapped Doughnuts.
Because it was Halloween, we had a bunch of chocolate and caramels laying around (who are we kidding, we’d probably have them without Halloween) so we melted them down as a drizzle on top of the bacon doughnuts.

Smoked Bacon Wrapped Doughnuts
Bacon Wrapped Doughnuts smoked to perfection over Hickory and Oak. Drizzled with Hot Chocolate and Caramels.
Ingredients
- 1 Dozen Glazed Doughnuts
- 1 lb Bacon
- 1 Bag Kraft Caramels
Instructions
-
Get the Smoker going to 275-300 Degrees
-
Get the bacon on smoker for about 15 minutes so it can start to cook a little bit, this will make it a bit easier to wrap it around the doughnuts and also help it get crispier without over cooking the doughnuts later.
-
Examine all the doughnuts without eating them and if the hole seems to small use a knife or your fingers to make the hole a bit bigger.
-
Take the bacon off the smoker and start wrapping around each doughnut. This usually will take 2-3 bacon strips per doughnut.
Use toothpick to secure bacon if necessary.
-
Add a small amount of your favorite rub (Or salt and pepper) to bacon.
-
Put on smoker at 300 degrees until bacon is crispy. Should take between 30-45 minutes.
-
Take off Smoker and let cool a bit while covering with the caramel drizzle (or your favorite syrup).
Make The Caramel Drizzle
-
Unwrap the Caramels and put them in a sauce pan and start melting them, you can use the firebox or if you have a grill handy it'll be easier.
